Situated on the Seine River, in the north of the country, it is in the centre of the Île-de-France region, also known as the région parisienne, “Paris Region”. The City of Paris has administrative borders essentially unchanged since 1860. Paris was founded in the 3rd century BC by a Celtic people called the Parisii, who gave the city its name. By the 12th century, Paris was the largest city in the western world, a prosperous trading centre, and the home of the University of Paris, one of the first in Europe. In the 18th century, it was the centre stage for the French Revolution, and became an important centre of finance, commerce, fashion, science, and the arts, a position it still retains today. The Paris Region had a GDP of €624 billion (US $687 billion) in 2012, accounting for 30.0 percent of the GDP of France, and ranking it as one of the five wealthiest regions in Europe; it is the banking and financial centre of France, and contains the headquarters of 29 of the 31 French companies ranked in the 2015 Fortune Global 500. Paris is the home of the most visited art museum in the world, the Louvre, as well as the Musée d’Orsay, noted for its collection of French Impressionist art, and the Musée National d’Art Moderne, a museum of modern and contemporary art. The notable architectural landmarks of Paris include Notre Dame Cathedral, the Sainte-Chapelle; the Eiffel Tower; and the Basilica of SacréCœur on Montmartre. In 2014 Paris received millions visitors, making it one of the world’s top tourist destinations. Paris is also known for its fashion, particularly the twice-yearly Paris Fashion Week, and for its haute cuisine, and three-star restaurants. Most of France’s major universities and grandes écoles are located in Paris, as are France’s major newspapers, including Le Monde, Le Figaro, and Libération. The city is a major rail, highway, and air-transport hub, served by the two international airports Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Paris-Orly. the city’s subway system, the Paris Metro, serves million passengers daily. Paris is the hub of the national road network, and is surrounded by three orbital roadsThe Eiffel Tower, French: tour Eiffel is a wrought iron lattice tower on the Champ de Mars in Paris, France. It is named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower. Constructed in 1889 as the entrance to the 1889 World’s Fair, it was initially criticized by some of France’s leading artists and intellectuals for its design, but has become a global cultural icon of France and one of the most recognisable recognizable structures in the world. The tower is the tallest structure in Paris and the most-visited paid monument in the world. The tower is tall, about the same height as an storey skyscraper building. Its base is square, on a side. During its construction, the Eiffel Tower surpassed the Washington Monument to become the tallest man-made structure in the world, a title it held for years until the Chrysler Building in New York City was built. Due to the addition of the aerial at the top of the tower, it is now taller than the Chrysler Building. Not including broadcast aerials, it is the second-tallest structure in France, after the Millau Viaduct. the highest accessible to the public in the European Union. Tickets can be purchased to ascend by stairs or lift, elevator, to the first and second levels. Although there is a staircase to the top level, it is usually only accessible by lift. eiffel tower paris france europe architecture people landmark travel city french urban blue sky cloud view beautiful symbol street tourism romantic capital european building historic monument metal landscape cityscape skyline construction summer timelapse hyperlapse 4k vacation tour steel attraction seine structure water sun iron touristic icon grass scene river day statue art bridge sculpture famous alexandre statues white clouds classic angels renaissance old artistic stone palace castle grand parisian versailles alexander cupid kiss gold golden horse dame notre cathedral church gothic catholic ancient religion medieval exterior notre-dame basilica history outdoors christianity dome heritage walking taking picture tourist diversity sacré cœur sacre coeur sacred heart sacré-cœur night sitting hill montmartre mount mountain steps lake boat chateau enjoy row paddle boating kayak canoeing canoe royal garden fountain nature tree park scenic historical unesco background traditional world pool pond design person flower panorama champs-elysees champs elysees arc triomphe arch triumph avenue traffic light road car dusk twilight sunset jam transportation transport busy crowded driving commute commuter congestion business drive life. Notre-Dame de Paris; French for Our Lady of Paris, also known as Notre-Dame Cathedral or simply Notre-Dame, is a historic Catholic cathedral on the eastern half of the Île de la Cité in the fourth arrondissement of Paris, France. The cathedral is widely considered to be one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture, and it is among the largest and most well-known church buildings in the world. The naturalism of its sculptures and stained glass are in contrast with earlier Romanesque architecture. As the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Paris, Notre-Dame is the parish that contains the cathedra, or official chair, of the archbishop of Paris, currently Cardinal André Vingt-Trois. The cathedral treasury is notable for its reliquary which houses some of Catholicism’s most important first-class relics including the purported Crown of Thorns, a fragment of the True Cross, and one of the Holy Nails. Notre-Dame suffered desecration during the radical phase of the French Revolution when much of its religious imagery was damaged or destroyed. An extensive restoration supervised by Eugène Viollet-le-Duc. A project of further restoration and maintenance. The Avenue des ChampsÉlysées is a boulevard in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, which runs between the Place de la Concorde and the Place Charles de Gaulle, where the Arc de Triomphe is located. It is known for its theatres, cafés and luxury shops, and for the military parade that takes place each year on the avenue to celebrate Bastille Day. The name is French for the Elysian Fields, the paradise for dead heroes in Greek mythology. The French proudly nickname this world-famous avenue “la plus belle avenue du monde”, “the world’s most beautiful avenue”. The Palace of Versailles, or simply Versailles is a royal chateau in Versailles in the Île-de-France region of France. It is also known as the Château de Versailles. When the château was built, Versailles was a country village; today, however, it is a wealthy suburb of Paris, some 20 kilometres southwest of the French capital. The court of Versailles was the centre of political power in France from 1682, when Louis XIV moved from Paris, until the royal family was forced to return to the capital in October 1789 after the beginning of the French Revolution. Versailles is therefore famous not only as a building, but as a symbol of the system of absolute monarchy of the Ancien Régime. Please also check my portfolio for more travel videos.
