They show part of the mural decoration of the famous Karanlik Kilise (or Karanlık Kilise – the Dark Church) set in Göreme Valley. The frescoes and the edifice itself date to around the middle of the 11th century AD – they bear a very special importance for the history of Byzantine Cappadocia and its art.
