The Church of Lamarya is located on the northern outskirts of the mountainous village of Zhibiani in the Ushguli district, part of the Municipality of Mestia. At 2,100 metres above sea level, Zhibiani is one of the highest permanently inhabited places in Europe. The building is located on a hill above the village, at the foot of the 5,193 metre high Shhara. The church is surrounded by a low stone wall and is protected by a Svan tower at the western end.
