extreme temperature

The National Weather Service has placed excessive heat warnings throughout central Texas and Oklahoma, as well as in western Arizona, warning the combination of sweltering heat and humidity will create “a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible,” including heat stroke and heat exhaustion.

Excessive heat watches are also in place in northern California while heat advisories are in effect in Arkansas, Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, New Mexico and Texas.

NWS forecasters say the heat index (how hot it feels outside considering humidity levels) will reach the mid-110s in southern Texas, warning people to “take extra precautions” if spending time outside, reduce strenuous outdoor activities and avoid leaving children or pets in unattended vehicles.
