Angioplasty and stent placement are medical procedures commonly used to treat narrowed or blocked blood vessels, usually arteries, that supply blood to various parts of the body. The most common application is in the coronary arteries of the heart, where these procedures are used to treat coronary artery disease (CAD) and improve blood flow to the heart muscle’s angioplasty and stent placement procedure is usually performed in a special room called a catheterization lab or Cath lab. It is typically used when there is significant blockage in the blood vessels that could potentially lead to a heart attack or cause significant symptoms such as chest pain (angina).
