Leukoderma, commonly known as vitiligo, is a skin condition that results in the loss of skin color in blotches. The exact cause of vitiligo is not fully understood, but it is believed to be an autoimmune condition in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys the melanocytes, the cells that produce pigment in the skin. Hormonal imbalance is not considered a direct cause of vitiligo, but hormonal changes may potentially influence the condition in some individuals.
