Spirogyra is a genus of filamentous green algae in the order of the Zygnematales, named for the helix-shaped arrangement of chloroplasts. It is often found in fresh water, and there are over 400 species of Spirogyra in the world. Spirogyra is approximately between 10 and 100 microns wide and can reach several centimeters long.
