Siem Reap is a resort town in northwest Cambodia. It is also the gateway to the ruins of Angkor, seat of the Khmer Empire from the 9th to the 15th centuries. This vast complex of finely crafted stone buildings includes the main Angkor Wat temple, which is featured on the flag of Cambodia. Huge mysterious faces are carved on the temple of Bayon, in Angkor Thom.
