White blood cells, also known as leukocytes, play a crucial role in the body’s immune system. They are primarily responsible for defending the body against infections and foreign invaders. White blood cells flow through the blood vessels just like other blood components, such as red blood cells and platelets. White blood cells can leave the bloodstream and move into surrounding tissues through a process called diapedesis.
